The south beach replenishment didn't come too soon. If you take a stroll from 98th to 111th you can compare the "bight" in the dune where earlier Nor'easters eroded the sand. Much was done in November to replenish the beach. The replenishment area now has a very distinct cut only 25 to 30 yards from the dune. The new sand did its job, but one wonders how often we will need to do it over. Here's hoping the spring weather brings a lot of that sand back. It may be time to notice the environmentalists' call regarding rising ocean levels and new assaults on our beaches. If you read the Press article on December 21st, the Delaware side of our peninsula is not doing so well either. Much erosion. Supposedly whole fishing villages have disappeared along the Delaware Bay since colonial times.
